  1. “My Experience in Statistics”

Statistics was one of my least favorite topics in Mathematics when I was still in fourth year high school. We didn’t focus on it much and our Mathematics teacher was really hard to understand. That’s why when I saw Math 3 - Statistics on our curriculum for the current semester, I was really nervous and I didn’t know what to expect in the subject.

The first meeting came and it was a Saturday. I was almost 5 minutes late. I was confident that the class wasn’t starting yet since it’s only the first meeting. But to my surprise, our professor was already there and was already discussing something. This made me feel that our professor is a terror professor. But as weeks go by, I learned that he goes to school really early and that didn’t gave us the permission to be late because he’s really going to start the lesson at exactly 8 o’clock in the morning. At first, it was kind of hard coping up with our professor’s ways, but we got used to it eventually.

This particular Mathematics subject is different from the past subjects that we had. On our first year in college, we took up Math 1 – Algebra and on our second year, we took up Math 2 – Calculus. Both subjects are both a bit difficult but we have an easy going attitude towards it because it is twice a week and our minds are only overused for an hour and a half every other day. This does not gave us much stress unlike the Math 3 – Statistics. This is because even though we only meet once a week, it is a three-hour class. It always gives us stress every morning. But on the lighter side of the story, it exercises our minds that have been stocked for a day.

Our professor’s way of teaching is really unique. Can you imagine having three lessons for three straight hours? And mind you, it is Statistics. It will really make your head spin and feel like you are having vertigo. But for me, when you get used to it, it is fun and challenging. And Dr. Orata, our Statistics professor, is a good lecturer. It’s not like I’m a “sipsip” or anything, it just that I want to say the truth. There is no meeting that is boring if Sir Orata is around. He’s inserting some funny comments while discussing the lesson that will make us laugh and release some pressure. I would say that he is the second teacher/professor that made me like numbers and formulas. The first was my Math teacher when I was in third year high school. Now I understand why a lot of my friends are saying that the difficulty of the subject also depends on the teacher. Why? It is because no matter how hard the subject is if the teaching techniques are very effective, the students will find the subject matter easy and will also be pleased and surprised with how good they have become with the subject.

To sum it all up, my Statistics experience is generally pleasurable and challenging. It made me discover new things and helped me develop my skills more. And of course, my experiences every meeting would always be a memorable part of college days. Maybe even after this semester, we would still remember this subject and talk about it every now and then. And I’m sure, me and my classmates will not forget about Statistics and the man behind it that made our heads spin.

    My Statistics Experience
July 2012, the month that I enrolled in this statistic and other subject, as I expected it will be very hard for me to cope up with others. I am not good at math and honestly I’m slow learner with this of kind subject. As I remember, the first meeting is unwell in terms of I’m having a hard time, feeling intense and pressure that I maybe failed this subject. The first day will be the orientation or giving introduction in our course subject (statistics), Dr. Orata give brief information about himself. Where does he graduated, what degree level he finished and other more. As I hear all of this, suddenly I said to myself: “Wow, pero siguro strict siyang magbigay ng grades”.
As time goes by, I didn’t notice that I can cope up with others. I can catch up with lesson, I’m answering my home works and seat works, I’m already reciting sometimes and I can even answers questions by myself, things that I can’t do in this kind of subject and for me it’s very unusual.
In this point of view, I realized it is not about the subject, it is about the professor who teaches you and I who attentively listen to him. Even how hard the subject is it, if the professor would teach you the lesson in much easier way and you will focus on him, you can learn things, you will learn something.
For me there were two ways Dr. Orata teaches us: First, the serious type way. In this way of his teaching, we all concentrated on him. Why? Because he will teach you lesson very fast and if you didn’t pay attention to him, you will late or become slow learner. As we discussing things, I remember what my classmates and I always say to him: “agad! agad! Madale ka sirrrrrrr”, then we all laughed. I feel more comfortable to him now because even we had a joke while his discussing a lesson, he smiled and even laugh with us. He’s not a kind of professor whose boring while having lesson.
The Second way will be: The funny way of teaching. While having a lesson Mr. Orata will insert fun jokes related to lesson. Earlier (Sept. 1, 2012) as we had a lesson, he suddenly said to us: “kailagan marunong lang kayong magbilang, hindi kayo marunong magbilang?” then again we all laugh. In this way of leaching, I find myself learning, learning things that I’m not interest before, but then again it was before.
As I concluded in this essay of mine, as I told above I’m not good at math, honestly it is my first time to have a line of 9 grade since I studied from grade 1 until 2nd year college, but if you focus on things you wanted to learn, I definitely ensure to you that you will be gaining something, you will have the knowledge you wanted. It is my Statistic experience, it may not always be good, I maybe failed to understand all the things but still I try all of best to experience the good side of it, the good side of STATISTICS.

  3. My Statistics Experience

I personally I’m a little bit slow in math but with the help of my classmate and specially you my teacher my mind is getting improve with your help and my classmate too. The first day of the class in statistic I’m little bit nervous is because that math is one of the hardest subject in my life but now I realize that statistics is a little bit easy if you study hard and understand it clearly you can answers any problems that the teacher give in the test or in the quiz but in comes in recitation I’m little bit shy because maybe my answer is wrong I’m not sure if wrong I dont have any confidense but maybe someday I can answer in the blackboard. Math help our daily life in fact math is everywhere in my house, in my school, almost everywhere. Even in the hospital we can apply statistics there. For example the patients population you can compute it using some methods in statistics. In my teacher he teach us very fast somethings I’m getting late or delayed in mind that's why I asking in my seatmate what is the the exact formula sorry if not alert in the class but I can recover fast that I can follow but a little confuse. My teacher is a little strict we need some things to enter in the class for example : calculator, ruler, protractor and etc secondly for being late you must get in the class early. That is an easy catch up rule that you can follow it.

Math is one of my hatest subject in my life. but still I need to study this because math is require in my life but maybe someday this subject I will appreciate or better I will love this. Thanks to my teacher. You make problem getting easy with your help.

    “My Statistics Experience“
First thing to say is I had the BEST experience.
I am Jacky Rose Tuesca, Third year tourism student at Olivarez College. I am also currently studying Mathematics III which is Statistics. I took Tourism as my chosen field due of having several reasons, one is because I want to be a Corporate Travel Manager someday and of course as my majority classmates, I also hate numbers, I hate Mathematics perhaps.
As far as I know, Tourism as a course, is not that focusing in numbers.
It was June 6, 2012 when I first met my Statistics professor, Prof. Dr. Edmar L. Orata. I was so nervous that time. He is tall, light, very formal, with an eye glasses and very finesse which really caught my attention. I was as tense as I flash behind my mind all my future necessary actions by having him as my professor. Until… He started to talk, He introduced himself. THANK GOD! That’s the first word to say. All my negative predictions turns to its opposite descriptions. I was so happy when we get to know each other. He is so naughty, bubbly, cool and it tickles me when he cracks jokes.
We are consuming three hour session every Saturdays. I never felt laziness in coming to school at eight in the morning to meet him. He is strict when teaching as his formality but he can be your friend as you want. He is approachable. For him, “Time is Gold”, he never waste his time. He is doing his best for us to learn. He gives activities to enhance our mathematical skills and always making our class alive. I never felt sleepy during my Statistic class because of him. I learned many things from him regarding to these course. Even the topics which are hard as me and my other classmates thought, becomes easy when he starts to explain each one. He gives clear notion to every topics and he explains each steps for us to catch up. As time goes by, I realize that slow learner persons rate will be lessen if you experience to be his student. He made me feel that I’m not only studying Statistics because it is on my course curriculum but I am studying Statistics because I enjoy it and I love it. He did erase my hatred in Mathematics. He is also giving us assignments and projects to check if we absorbed anything from the subject he taught.
I learned to appreciate Statistics not just in MIND but also through my HEART perhaps it is because, Dr. Orata also teaches through his heart.
I experienced to encounter difficult topics but nevertheless he encourages me and the whole class to understand by making it very clear and simple. He has his wholesome attitude which I really like. He’s not only making our every session better but he always ends it up to a BEST day.
I feel so blessed to have him as my professor and he serves as one of my inspiration in studying. I learned a lot of good things from him which I can apply into my everyday life. I know I can use my earned knowledge from him in future and so I pray to God to make him still the same.
My experience cannot be compared with anything. I had the best one. I was so inspired and hope to have another good experience next semesters.

    “My Statistics Experience”
I’m really anxious because I don’t know who our professor would be. For my first day of class in statistics, when our professor entered the room, I started to feel more nervous because he is new in our school so we don’t have any idea about him. I can feel that at first he don’t like tourism students for the reason that he thinks were not studying seriously. Then, he placed all the tourism students in the front seats. I got afraid because that was my first time to be assigned to sit in front of the class, since I don’t like math at all I always sit in the middle or at the back of the class. Our first lesson was very easy. It was about the meaning of statistics, and the difference between Qualitative and Quantitative. After our lesson, we had a quiz. I’m glad because I got a good score. I enjoyed our first day in class because I learned something about statistics. I got headache during the following meeting, we finished three lessons within three hours followed by a seatwork. I got amazed my professor because he discussed with particular lesson using a very simple explanation. Hence, we understood the lesson quickly. Our professor always comes early. He starts and dismiss our class on time. He is very responsible because even though the weather is not good, he still comes to school to teach.
When I was in elementary and high school, I really don’t like math because I find it boring and hard. When I reached college, we had math 1 and 2. That time, I thought that I do like math, but I was wrong. When I knew that statistics would be our subject this semester, I got worried because I’m not very good in numbers and I really hate math. I thought statistics was hard. A lot of my friends sat that they like statistics and that this subject was very easy but sometimes it is confusing and takes a lot of time to answer due to long process. Now I know that my friends were right about statistics being an easy yet confusing subject.
After all the days we spent in our class, I find statistics very interesting and exciting subject because our professor who is very intelligent and cool. One of the reasons why I like statistics is because my prelim grade was 98 this was my first time to get a very high grade in a math subject. I’m happy because our professor became kind to us tourism students, despite of our first meeting. Lastly, I’m very grateful to have a professor like him for sharing all his knowledge and experience to us, for becoming our statistics professor and all times we spent in this class.

    My Statistics Experience

The first time I knew that I will be having a math 3 (statistics) my only expression is like jaw dropping and super shock. Then when I saw my schedule for this semester I saw that there is a math 3 statistics and it was every Saturday and for three hours. I laugh and at the same time sad because I admit I don’t like numbers, solving or in short I don’t like math. That day before I sleep I pray that our professor would not be too strict and statistics is easy and I can pass it. On our first day I feel so nervous, as we walk at the hallway going to our room we talk so much about it all negatives and even the professor, but we didn’t know that our professor is behind walking with us, we felt shame inside and we just laugh. When the class get started we meet our class and our professor his name is Mr. Orata, when he meet all the tourism he said he want all of us to sit in front, I feel nervous that time and then he ask us one by one what is our feeling in statistics and what we want in the future, I frankly told him that I’m nervous because I don’t like math and I want to be an flight attendant. When we finish our lesson I don’t really expect that its not what I thought, its kinda good and I can with the flow. As the time goes by, I never t thought that Mr Orata is really a good and cool professor to us we always laugh and teasing each other, we easily get closed to him and feel comfortable, i never saw him get mad with us, hes sometimes weird and he don’t like us wearing shorts, dress or skirt, he want us to be like maria clara, and if you wear that you will get minus grade, but the most good thing about him he always gives us a plus grade that’s why can easily get high grade, he teach us very fast and he give us a lot of activities. I easily coped with it, im starting to love the subject because of our professor, even though sometimes it is hard and tiring its okay because we want to pass it. When I first get my prelim grade I was really shock and proud of my self that I got 97,it is my first to have a 97 in math. I really can’t believe it, I feel like I’m dreaming, I hope that I can maintain it and I don’t want to fail it. For me statistics is one of my unforgettable subject and Mr. Orata is one of my memorable professor in my entire life. I never thought that he can make our statistics cool, funny and easy for us. Even though sometimes it hard, tiring and sometimes we feel dizzy, we rather finish it whether we like it or not. Im really happy to be one of his student and most of all to be his professor in statistics I hope all math teacher is like him. I hope our relationship with him will remain and he will continue to teach like what is his usually his doing. Im proud to my self because I learn so much about statistics and I hope this will continue until we finish our semester. And this is my statistics experience.

    My Statistics Experience

June 2012 when I enrolled this subject Math3 (Math Statistics). I need to take this even I do not like math because I have no choice. I have no idea who is our professor. Until the class started when I came at the classroom in NB 201, I still remember I was late that time because I think since its first day of our meeting It might be not regular classes. But I’m wrong when i enter the classroom all of my classmate are quite. I do not know that we have a professor sitting like a potato at the back I soon found out that he is our Math3 teacher, He is Dr. Edmar Orata.

My first impression to Dr. Edmar Orata is inclement, strict but congenital. But the days goes by Dr. Orata becomes close to us. And one thing I want in him he is not boring it comes in teaching, he always jokes around with us in short he is cool professor. And he always come early and he don’t want late student. He was not stingy in giving grades to their student, if he saw you give extra effort to his subject he give you deserving grade.

Regards in my experience in Math3 (stat) I thought it was hard also like my other previous math subject. But these math3 is more easy to me, like to do my seatwork, assignment etc. But there are some certain points that I don’t know how to get the solution so that I asked my classmate how to get it. So you should not be lose or absent just to keep track those lessons. But when you tracked those lessons it’s not really difficult. Throughout of my study only these math been easy for me. In 3 months when he becomes our professor in Math3 we’ve learned a lot to their lesson. Since kinder to 2nd year college I never get line of nine(9) in my long quizzes, test even assignment I’ll never get that only now I’m 3rd year college only now I just started loving math. And so grateful to Dr. Orata because he changed my point of view in math.

    My Statistics Experience
My statistics experience was cool. Not because I loved the Math subject but because of our intelligent professor who made our subject cool.
Our professor proved to us that our subject is not a boring subject, because he teach us very clearly and easy to understand. Our subject becomes interesting because of him. He is very fast when it comes to discussing our lesson but we understand it very well. He did not allow one of his students to leave the classroom without knowing what was his lessons for the day. There comes a time our head is aching because of computing lots of numbers. He made everything more exciting in every lesson that he discuss. Before, I don’t like statistics because I thought this was the subject that make my life miserable while I’m still studying. But again I’m wrong because this subject becomes hard if you don’t listen and if you came late in class. This subject is hard if you don’t know the proper computation and how to start to compute. Listening and participating to this subject is the best key for you to enjoy. If you did this you don’t felt any boredom in this kind of subject. Sometimes I’m shocked when our professor told us that we finished five lessons in three hours, I don’t expect that we can do it but everything is possible if you are interested. I’m so happy because I get ninety eight in our preliminary grade. I don’t expect that I can get that kind of grade but everything is possible when you really study. Statistics subject contains Nature of statistics, variables according to, sampling technique, slovin’s formula, descriptive statistics and many more. All this topic put a question mark in my head. The first thing that comes in my mind “oh my gosh!” its hard but when our professor starts to discuss and explain it very well the question marks in my head was gone because I know how to solve the problems and I know how to get the right answer. You just need to participate, listen and understand all the lessons that you have, because if you don’t you will fail. Just always remember that as a student you have a goal. The Saturday class that consist of BS Tourism, Varsities, Rad.Tech, Physical Therapist and AB Psychology are very lucky to have a professor like you Dr. Edmar L. Orata because you made our statistics subject very easy to learn and easy to understand. My statistics experience was unexplainable and very happy.

    “My Statistics Experience”
Math III or also known as “Statistics” is my one of my subject this first semester as a third year student. Based on my experience this subject is different to Algeba and Geometry. Statistics is more on number and addition ang solving the problem that unknown, in this subject I have a lot of things that I discover, it is an easy subject if you understand the problem and if you know the given formula. I enjoyed this subject, because my Professor discuss the lesson clearly and understandable. If you know the lesson you know how to solve it. Based on my experience I ‘am happy when I ‘am going to school to attend that subject, because that is the another day to learn another things about that subject. If you love your Professor, you also love the subject, because you are interested to learn. Sometimes, my head is not ok, because of the numbers that we are solving but I need to understand it because I want to learn a lot of things about this subject. I ‘am happy when I see my quizzes is perfect, I know that I deserve it. One morning when I heard my cellular phone was rang, I saw the text of my Professor, said that my prelim grade is 98%, I was so flattered and very much happy because that’ s the day of my happiness in my life. Dr. Edmar L. Orata is also a Principal in other school. He is a good professor that I encounter to teach a statistics subject, I ‘am so glad to have him. Even though, every Saturday he also say that he want to go me in canteen to see what kind of food is available, he always laugh at me when I ‘am tired. He also said that the Tourism student is “maarte” in our campus, but it is not true. I ‘am so happy that every meeting we have a lot of topics that we encounter that is good to us, because we learn a lot. After we finish our topic he give a seatwork to us to enhance our ability how to solve it. I ‘am not good in math, but in this generation I feel that math is also an inspiring subject to me, because of our professor. Every quizzes that he gave to us, all of them is always perfect, he gave us another points because of a good attitude. He don’t like a student that is no calculator, noisy and always late, also wearing a short, in case that he see a student that wearing short he minus the grades,( I ‘m just kidding . ) he lock the door if it is eight in the morning. Statistics is easy to understand, because I listen the lesson carefully and put it on my mind that I have to earn a high grades. In this subject I learn how to count a number or add that it is difficult to do. I’ am thankful because even we have a quiz it is ok to him that we are noisy and sometimes copying the answer of my other classmates. In my case I have to say that this subject give me a lot of meaning and give me an inspirational feeling to my life and to my study. Statistics is sometimes easy, sometimes it is so hard, but I ‘am happy that I learn a lot. Thanks to my professor, because he teach us very well. Thanks a lot Dr. Edmar L. Orata.

    My Statistics Experience

I am a third year Tourism student enrolled in Olivarez College Paranaque. I am really grateful that I came this far. I’m halfway there and sooner will be receiving my diploma but before that I should still accomplish four semesters more.

June is nearly coming so I should visit school and get enrolled. I am expecting that I have less minor subjects and more major subjects but to my surprise it is the opposite way around BUT more surprisingly than that, I have Mathematics 3 which is Statistics. I really thought I do not have any Mathematics subject to go with because I already finished Mathematics 1 and 2 during the past semesters. Since when I was a kid, I really do not like numbers but I have no choice but to enroll everything in our curriculum so be it.

Our statistics is scheduled every Saturday. Our only subject for that day and more than that it is scheduled early in the morning. There was no indicated professor yet for that subject based on our registration form.

Finally the first Saturday on our First semester came, waking up early and knowing it is Mathematics subject was like “UGH”. Still I got prepared and went to school, me being lazy waking up, I came late on our first meeting and as I open the door on our designated classroom, it really do surprised me to see that our Professor was a male. Honestly I hate male professors specially when the subject is hard because it really gives me a hard time approaching them regarding subject matters. I sat down and listened to him as he is telling about himself.

I was amazed that Sir Orata is not just an ordinary professor but also a Principal of a school. It made me look up on him so high. My first impression with Sir Orata is not that so “thumbs up” because I was a bit scared on him, he looks like “masungit” type. He is, a bit but beyond that he has good teaching skills. I can say he has mastery on the subject taught because I understand everything that he teaches. I may not be that good enough in his subject but atleast I am not that worse.

He told us “papasa kayo basta may calculator” which I didn’t believe to because it is still math, hard for me. Saturdays and Saturdays came and it is true. I find Statistics easy if you just know the step-by-step procedure. If you just attend classes regularly.

Being under Sir Orata not only gives us information about Statistics but also he is training us to be more responsible. He do not like tardiness because he himself comes on time which is I think reasonable enough for the both parties. As meetings came, we found Sir Orata is not that serious type professor. He injects jokes which make the class alive.

He gives chances on each and everyone in the class to participate for extra grade. This is by participating on solving on the board and etc. One thing I love the most about Sir Orata is he is generous in giving us extra grades.

To summarize these all, thank you to Sir Orata for making Statistics easy for all of us and the patience of teaching us every Saturday morning.

Hi! I am Memcy Patroset A. Quindo, a BSTourism student at Olivarez College. My experience in statistics goes this way first I hate mathematics since when I was in high school but now I like it because of our intelligent teacher Dr. Edmar L. Orata. First day of his class in math I was late and he said I will be seated in front. He’s first impression on us as tourism student is more on beauty without brain. I expected that he will be checking our registration letter and he will be dismissing us early but he started to lesson about statistics.
Dr. Orata was cool teacher he is mastered his entire lesson about mathematics also statistics, he explain very well that’s why everyone will understand. He is industrious teacher, he come early in school; he likes to give us plus points, he is joker, he is frank and I am one of his students that he gives an order to buy food in the canteen.
Our first day he gives the outline for what will be taking up and he is started to discuss about statistics. After he discussed he give our first seatwork and quizzes. My experience inside the room is many to mention like I participated on the lesson, I pass all the quizzes and seat work he gives but I am a less points to him in prelim because I am always late and during the typhoon time I was late. Dr. Orata is closed to tourism student we did not expected that.
Experience in statistics is learning different things, we express a range of conceptions, we learn in statistics remarkably in different ways. We expect different of what teaching should be about. Investigating the problems of statistics education, discuss about the numbers, etc.
Statistics also are not hard to understand if you are cooperating to the teacher. Now, in midterm I am happy because all of my quizzes are highest and I go to school early and it always gives us stress every meeting. And I am thankful that Dr. Orata is our teacher because many students said that he is a best teacher ever, you are unique sir, and it always gives us stresses every meeting.
Therefore, my statistics experience is challenging, it encourage me to develop my skills and discover something new. I will not forget about statistics because for now on I will be one of my favourite subjects. Somebody said that mathematics is difficult but for me it depends on the teacher if he/she discussed very well like Dr. Edmar L. Orata he is a good lecturer. Thank you because I learned a lot. Godbless!

  14. MY STATISTICS EXPERIENCE

Statistics is a just a word I knew before but never its true essence - a word that means just another hardship when I heard. Many of people I know hate math and apparently I was one of them. I got anxious every time this term comes through my ears. Basically, it might be because the definition of mathematics for me was just a mere difficult subject yet my thoughts got me erroneous.
As I was on my third year level in college, I got curious of what is really statistics? What kind of branch of mathematics is this? Is it full of numbers? Is it full of problem solving? Questions were always raising from my head. I just thought that whatever I do even if I turn the whole world upside-down, I cannot escape from it. It was there and all I would do is to accept and embrace it. Even it is hard, I must love it. This was a very ridiculous thing but this was true. Statistics? I just sigh.
On my very first day in this subject, I was kind of nerve-wracked then finally I met my professor – Mr. Orata. I felt he was just another terror one and this subject would be another torture in my life, literally. He is strict when it comes to everything because he is a person who just sees everything – a very observant human. He is very punctual. He arrives one hour before the class starts. He is just a man of words basically. He is a very professional person.
However, I was mistaken by my bare impressions about him. As days, weeks and months have passed by; we were getting to know more of him. He is kind of funny, cool and nice to be with. He is just like one of our classmates. He teaches it very quick but he lets the students use their comprehension. Nevertheless, the subject indeed make me dizzy every time I see those numbers.
I understand statistics very well. It is a bit difficult in matter but it can be understood easily. It is not just like any other branches of mathematics. I have learned how population, probability, graphs etc. are being computed. We always do seatwork to sharpen our minds. I think minimum of four seatworks every meeting. This was an enjoyable but it was a hard time computing those numbers, sometimes, with letters and formulas. Eventually, I did learn how to love the subject.
I found out that statistics is not what I should be scared of rather I should be scared if I never learned this subject. I learned that It can really help me in my future job. I may not remember all of them but the basics would be very essential. I also understood the importance of this matter. Sometimes, you have to face what scares you to keep you moving forward and to make you gain progress.

Since when I was 1st year college they have Math (Algebra) I really like math I don’t know why, maybe because im so very happy when I solve the math problem even if it is difficult I try harder to solve the problem, now im 3rd year college I miss math(Statistics)my expectation in this subject is more than I thought, they are more interesting because you will learn the no. of subject thought, the probability and many more sa you expected and of course this is very important because if you will go outside or anywhere there is a math to compute.

Now my Statistics experience here in 3rd yr. college are very challenging because Mr.Edmar Orata is very strict but has a considerations in student especially the Project, Assignment, Quiz, even he is absent the quiz/long quiz must proceed and you won’t skip at all. They don’t like late, especially if you don’t have scientific calculator you better to go away from the class

Statistics is only set of no.s they don’t hae letters etc. like x,y,z …they are pure no. they are easy if you focus what the instruction shown because once you have a little mistake in a problem all of your answer is incorrect, because statistics is easy to get but has a long solution beforeyou get the correct answer and be extra careful in what you do. To be honest Mr.Edmar Orata is not an ordinary professor in the field of mathematics unlike in other prof. it is not interesting what they teach,I already know because in UPHSD in engineering dept, they have many professor that not good in teaching in math.

In more than one year that we haven`t a math subject, we are very excited as well as nervous because obviously not all of us likes that subject because we choose a medical course many computations and many numbers that makes me harshed but it`s in our curriculum that we need to passed before we graduate and we have no choice but to take it.Well honestly this subject is very interesting, not only for the topics but because of our professor and his activities and project that prepared for us.were on the middle of the semester and we have lots of things learned, and more things to be learned in last part of the semester.

1st meeting, our professor Mr.Edmar Orata told us that basic statistics is not difficult subj.like algebra and it doesn`t have factors and pre numbers so many of us though that it was not difficult as we know when were discuss our lesson , at 1st it was easy but every lesson it`s very hard to understand and very confusing to understand somebody is absent in our weekly meeting automatically three lesson he/shewill be missed and for and for our long exam, if you are absent when it discussed abosolutely you will have no answer to that topic.other subj. that have choice to choose and to have percentage that our answer is right.

This subj. basic statistics is very interesting because unlike last my mathematical subject that me and my other classmates we are bored, sleepy and didn`t have an excitement when it` time for the subj. But this this project is different, all of that boredom hobbies doesn`t makes me feel when Im in classroom, maybe because were enjoying the way. Our professor teaching he`s very good in teaching explain thingshe even crack some jokes to make us comfortably and he also make everyone of us not only a students but he`s friend and maybe his younger sisters and brothers

Before the semester ends I am sure that no body in the handle students of Mr.Edmar Orata didn`t learned from him and even forget him and I wanna thank our strictly buy funny and very good professor for sharing his knowledge to us.

    Thank you “Mr.Edmar Orata!!”

I learned more about calculations and many things in statistics. I’m so happy that our professor is good and talented. He has the techniques and skills to make the problems so easy. He is good teacher and approachable too. Many things happen when our class started, all students may participate in his class and outsiders were not allowed. If you don’t know what to do he will teach it again. All problems seem so easy for him, that’s why we learned fast and learned techniques to make it easier. Statistics is not only about learning math and calculations. It teaches us how to handle numerous problems, laughter and lessons that we learned in our daily lives.
Statistics & calculation always goes hand in hand in our everyday life. If one of my classmates doesn’t know how to calculate how the work should be done, your output is not balance. Statistics is applied for faster and efficient way in solving those hard things you will encounter along the way. For better understanding one must know how to apply statistics.
Everything we do in our daily lives depends on statistics and calculation. As we all know develop countries that maintain their status and economy exerts time and allocate budget for studies searching for a better solutions. If all of us know how to calculate our resources we will not be in a bad situation.
Sad to say that some people doesn’t know how to apply these things. If we only put our hearts and be passionate enough in everything we do eventually we will achieve it easily. Successful people study how statistics and its calculation work in order for them not to commit mistakes in the long run. If we don’t know how to plan and spend all what we earn we will be sure losers. In totality statistics will help us to inline ourselves to have a better future. Learning statistics is not that complicated compared to other sciences. We just need to analyze and use our common sense in order to maximize its application.

I’ve gain a lot of knowledge in the fields of quantitative methods and statistics from the lesson of our professor Dr. Orata.

First of all, in Dr. Orata’s class, you need to be punctual, responsible, and cooperative. Why do you need to be punctual? Because when you’re late the doors will be locked and sadly, there will be only two things that you can do, it’s either you listen to his lesson outside of the room or you will go home. Why do you need to be responsible? You need to attend to his class every meeting; because once you miss a lesson it will be difficult for you to understand it. All the things that you should do in his subject, you must do it. All the assignments, projects, seat works, etc. You need to do a lot of effort for you to pass, because he only pass students who deserve to pass. Why do you need to be cooperative? When you cooperate in his lessons, he will notice that you are eager to learn and you are really interested in his subject.

In the subject statistics, at the first glance at the lesson, it seems to be hard. But when you listen and focus on how the professor solves the problem, you will be amaze that the given problem is easy to solve. It’s just that when you see numbers and math problems the first thing that comes from your mind, that it will be difficult. I learned that you need to be very careful in doing statistics, because one mistake can mess the whole data.

Every information is important in statistics. In statistics, you need to have a lot of patience. You will do a lot of things in just solving one problem. The most important thing in studying statistics is the scientific calculator. Without scientific calculator you’ll have a very hard time solving problems or you just can’t solve it anymore especially if we are dealing with big amount of numbers! Unless your brain have its own calculator. Basic statistics is very interesting subject. It will be hard at first but when you know how to do it, it will be easy for you. When you learn a lot from statistic, you can use it for business.

At first I had a hard time solving problems in statistic, but statistics is something interesting to learn and I had fun every time I got the correct answer in the questions. I have experience with cluster analysis, imputing missing data, and simpler statistical methods, such as chi-square, correlation coefficients, etc. I am confident that I can tackle some statistical problem you may have.

It is my 1st semester in my 2nd year at Olivarez College and I enrolled Basic

Statistics under Dr. Orata every Saturday 8:00 am to 11:00 am. I find that

attending this class will give me more knowledge about math which I find

very hard for me a couple of years ago, but now it change, I think it is easy

and enjoyable because the lessons are well explained and seat works,

quizzes, home work and major exam are challenging which help us to

analyze and strive to answer the questions.

A couple of weeks ago, our professor ask us a question “What is the

connection or relation of Statistics to your course?” suddenly, I think and ask

myself “What is the connection of it as a Physical Therapy student?”. There

are some connections like in some of our lesson; first. “FREQUENCY

DISTRIBUTION TABLES” its components are: class steps, tally, frequency,

cumulative frequency <, and cumulative frequency >, relative frequency,

midpoint, lower boundaries, upper boundaries and degrees in the pie chart.

We use these tables during interview, assessment and census it is easier

than doing it in a different way. Second lesson that has connection with my

course is “WEIGHTED MEAN” it will help me to know who is excellent, very

satisfactory, satisfactory, fair, and poor standing in some exercise as a

patient, standing in school activities as student and standing of sales as a

office worker. Third lesson that has connection to my course is

“CORRELATIVE ANALYSIS” it is when the degree of relationship is measured.

Correlation is basically the test measurement. May be it is used if the patient

have any progress in doing some exercises that will improve his posture and

body movement like walking. And fourth lesson is “SPEARMAN RHO” because

I will know the rankings and answer for example the different exercises or
most like and most applicable to the patient by

following to correct rankings through this method I will know if the exercise

is effective and improve the status of the patient.

Studying Basic Statistics improved my knowledge and skill in numbers.

Exposing us in a lot of different questions, equations and problem solving

Help us to understand and analyze the given problem. Basic statistics help

me and it educate my mind, body and soul. Thank you for giving us

more knowledge and time to adopt the lesson.

  23. MY EXPERIENCES IN BASIC STATISTICS

    Krysdel marianne R. Bolante
    BSPT-II
    Math 3 (statistics)
    Mr.Edmar Orata

As of almost 4 months and still counting of course till October, some

experiences were really that memorable or lemme say knowledgeable or

worth it feeling as I attend every Saturday in this subject. First, what is

really Basic Statistics? This is basically a subject matter that each student

must learned about and according to some information that I’ve research

with, this is a set of concepts, rules, and procedures that helps us to

organize numerical information, understand statistical techniques underlying

decisions that affect our lives ang well-being, and make informed decisions.

Second, is that really important to study with? Others, may think its not

really important or visible to study with but it’s a mere mistake because

its important especially in knowing how or what particularly Census relates

in our own lives where Census is the procedure of systematically acquiring

and recording information of a given population. Third, what would be the

relationship/importance with our course? It is relative to us as Physical

Therapy because of these reasons maybe; In applying examples of

Sampling Techniques in our patients or at the Rehab/Clinic that we’ve

    assigned. Some were:

`Systematic Random Sampling, where items or individuals are arranged in

some ways. (alphabetically). In applying this to us as PT, we must first

identify what is our patient’s condition the perhaps classify or sort them with

what modalities were they going to use.

`Stratified Random Sampling, where population is first divided into subsets

based on homogeinity called STRATA. In applying this to our job, we must

first also know what causes the pain they’re suffering then what would be

the treatment and lastly, what would they do in order to overcome those

    pain.

So, Basic Statistics is definitely important. Maybe some will not agree but

there will always be that thing that will help us to make it in life. Likewise

in studying Stat., maybe right now we still don’t know the importance

of this but we’ll never know, this will help us to make some things work

when we’re already professionals. As the saying says, “expect always the

    unexpected.”

Statistics is just an ordinary subject to anyone who doesn’t know its importance to their everyday life. But for us being a Physical Therapist it is important because it will help us know if the treatment that we give provides satisfaction to our patients. Statistics also help us think for the better management and exercise that we are going to give for the different medical conditions of the every patients. As the management and exercise varies for different conditions we must statistically evaluate if the treatment that we are going to give will have a same results for the different cases that we encounter. As for the madalities that we use statistics is also important because computation of temperature varies on different application on how long we are going to apply it to our patients.
As we conduct community base rehabilitation we also use statistics in determining the age of the patients in order to know if the conditions that they have is commonly seen in that specific age group. For example, in Hypertension it is more common in geriatrics patients and only few in youth. It is important to us to determine the age so that we can provide different management for the specific age group because the capability of two patient is different from one another.
In terms of treatment and exercise, assessing and measuring the range of motion is statistically evaluate for the capability of the patient to do the said measurement such as flexion and extension of the extremities. Active and passive type of range of motion exercise are the one we are giving. Grading for the muscles are the test that we must do in order to provide good and specific exercise.
For this, if we do all evaluation and assessment, I say we have done our part as a physical therapist a huge success if our patient becomes satisfied for the treatment and management that we give……..

Since when I was in grade school I hate MATH that’s why my mother sent me in KUMMON, I got low grades in math ever since. Even during my high school days I sill hate. I didn’t absorb the entire lesson that’s why during quiz I have no choice but to cheat. I’m lucky indeed because I didn’t get caught by my teacher.

I thought I won’t have any math subject during my Third year college days because I took two math subjects already when I was in first year and second year college. Then I was shock when I saw the MATH3 subject in my registration card upon enrollment.

On the first Saturday of the school year I met Mr. Edmar L. Orata thought he was strict and “MASUNGIT” But I was wrong he is cool and nice professor. he shows professionalism and apply it to us and every meeting there is so much activities to do and it enhance my skills in math.

He always notice my attire in his class every Saturday and says “ NAKA GOWN KA NA NAMAN” because I always wear dress. Also, we should prepare lots of paper in his class because he is used in giving quizzes every meeting

Since his subject is only once a week its equivalent is already two sessions that’s why it is hard for us to have absences because it is hard to cope up in his lessons. He discusses the lessons very well even thought he has lots of lessons every meeting, he makes it easy for us to understand each and every detail. his way of teaching is effective because even thought I hate math for my past I can get good grades now.

Above all, I can say that Mr. Orata is one of many effective professors in Olivarez College. I hope that I will be under his class again for my next semester because we are already fun in learning under him. I can also say he has the mastery of the subject because no one of us is failing when we attend class regularly.
Thank you Mr. Orata for being good professors and not only that also for being a cool prpf. That makes our Saturday classes more enjoyable in the same way he made learning math, more fun and easy way.

    What is Statistics?
For me Statistics is basically an easy subject to a simple accounting student.
Just because the professor’s teaching skills are NICE, Everyone expects an higher grades in this subject and if you don’t spend every second listening with MR.EDMAR ORATA, You will miss everything one half of your life!

By the way, Statistics is a process of collection, presentation, tabulation, analysis, and interpretation. Statistics as a discipline is considered indispensable in almost all spheres of knowledge. Statistics present facts in simple form, reduces the complexity of data, facilities comparison, helps in forecasting and drawal of inference. Statistic is of immense use in planning, business, economics, administration etc. But statistics has got several limitations. It does not deal with qualitative phenomena and individuals. I thought it uses tables and surveying only. When I began to learned this subject, Any fool knows you have to neither use calculator or you are not to be able to gain knowledge.

I guess some people would say that hating this subject matter is a nonsense foundation for their course like tourism, hrm, and other courses that is more on services and doesn’t need to calculate things.

But the thing is, sooner or later they will realize the essence of this subject that they have taken.Note that the STATISTICS is EVERYWHERE, whenever you are there’s numbers and if there’s numbers it will have math and statistics.
I remembered when the first day of class in Stat I was sitting in the first row because I want to focus to the lessons rather than going to the last row or mid row to play or doing something that can affect my grades. And then I got my 1st quiz perfect.  My impression to Mr. Orata was he is so very strict professor to his lesson that I really appreciated it.

I was inspired when he said that ACCOUNTANCY STUDENTS was his favorite students. He is always making Jokes like calling my other classmates Jessie James Sorongon as coco martin and Jaypee Suello as Yao Ming.He can teach us 3-5 diff. lessons every meeting in the short time period. He is the best! I’m glad that he is my professor in stat!

Over the 1st sem, STATISTICS has taught me what it takes to succeed. From months of tough practices, I have gained knowledge. From my professor Mr. Orata and fellow Classmates, I have learned to work well with others in a group, as it is necessary to cooperate with classmates on the class. But most important, I have also gained self-confidence. If I fail, it doesn't matter if they mock or ridicule me; I'll just try again and do it better. I realize that it is necessary to risk failure in order to gain success. Now, I welcome the challenge. Whether I succeed or fail is irrelevant; it is only important that I have tried and tested myself how can.

When I was a child it never comes to my mind that I will be more interested in math than the other subjects until I reach high school. That time, I found this subject very challenging and start to love it. Although tourism is my first choice of course, I do not hesitate to take accountancy because it’s more on math and analyzation. This semester I’m glad that I have my statistics subject even though I’m still not totally comfortable in our class because my classmates are from other courses but I’m trying my best to maintain good relations with them. On the first day I saw Sir Orata, I expect that he is a short-tempered man, hard to approach and a strict professor but as time goes by, I always enjoy attending our Saturday class with him. I think I became more responsible through him because in our class you need to be punctual or else you cannot enter the room.

When I hear the word Statistics, the first thing that comes in my mind is analysis. I don’t know why but I think in this subject you need to analyze everything. Statistics and accounting are very similar to each other regarding their uses because both are tools of decision making. For us, future accountants, this subject can help us to take decision regarding average, standard and marginal. It helps us in knowing the financial position of the business and in knowing the amount of goods sold, purchase of the goods and profits of the company. Statistics is important to us because it helps us to know what is happening around us both in the social life and the business world. It is used in every walk of life to keep a documented track of the numbers like demographics, census, surveys and others. It is important for the manufacturers to predict how long products will last and how often they won’t last that long

I expect that I will gain more knowledge about statistics because I know that it can help me in the future with my chosen career.

    “My Statistic experience “

First, I introduce myself, I’m Jessie James B. Sorongon,

College of accountancy in Olivarez College. In this place,

I want to tell my brief experience on statistic on my

    whole life.

After a years of my school days, my first of statistic

while I’m in my 4th year High school, statistic is not

definitely so easy they same in accounting subject that

has more in analyzation. Sometimes, I need more extra good

in analyzing of what the lesson they are teach,

because sometimes I get weak in analyzing such in

    probability, combinations and other.

Hence, Statistic is more on math, that’s why we need a

good foundation in math, like my classmate bryan, he is

good in math that’s why he can get more high grades in

math subject such as in statistic.

My second statistic is in my college, and my professor he

is Dr. Edmar L. Orata, a part-time teacher in Olivarez

College, And he is a good teacher. He is not definitely

strict but in teaching he is nice or he really worth in

teaching, he can do continuously teaching in 3 hours!

While he teaching a statistic, he is good because like in

my high school they some lessons are same but in college

are more appropriately difficult, like a said they more in

analyzing and have a good foundation in early math.

For my last, I’m so thankful to you Mr. Orata that’s now

I can Understand in statistic, and Sometimes they making

some like comparing of some celebrities and basketball

player! Thank you again Mr. Orata for all the things that

I learn about in statistics. Continue your goodwork Sir.

Thank you and God bless you.

    Math III (Monday 5pm-8pm)
    Mr. Edmar Orata

Before, every time I heard the Statistic subject, I know it’s hard because some of my friends told me that statistic is one of the hardiest subject that you will get when you were in college days. But now that I’m already in college and I have a Statistic subject. I have a lot of experience, some are funny, memorable, sad, but I always face it with a big smile on my face. First, when I noticed that the schedule for statistic is every Monday 5pm-8pm, I was shocked because on that day, we don’t even have a vacant. From 9am till 8pm in the evening and just an hour of break time is so difficult for us, that’s why sometimes when we go to OB 208 most of us look so tired, hungry and lots of energy. But despite of all this, we still have a reason to wake up and study hard while were in statistic time. When I first saw you Sir Edward D. Orata, I thought you were very strictly and hard to please professor. But as the day passes I realized that you are so good and nice although you are strict professor, but at least you still humble to us. It’s good to us to start our class on time and end it up also on time, and when you say pass your work, we must follow it and all your decision is final and we need to respect it.

When we start our lesson, I need to have a notebook, ballpen, paper and calculator on my table for me to use while listening and understand the lesson. There are times that it so hard for me to answer some question, but when I repeat reading and analyzing it, I realized that it was just so easy. And after the lesson, we have our quizzes, exam that’s good for us although sometimes I don’t have extra yellow pad, but it’s ok. I learned a lot from statistics, from the start until now I can say, that you Sir. Orata are so professional professor, so good in teaching, and humble person. But when the first time that we came late, I felt so bad because it’s been the first time it happen, I thought you will not accept us anymore but still the door open for us to come inside. Sorry for that sir, honestly were so busy at that time and we don’t know that the time is already there. I know that it’s not an excuse but at least I explain my side. That’s one of the embarrassing moments.

During statistic time, i always focus on the lesson; I put down some notes on my pad. And sometimes if I ever knew the answer, I recite gracefully. Now if ever I passed this subject, I believed it will help my future. I really learn a lot from it. Having a nice professor like you sir is an honor for us. I hope it will not be the first that you teach us. Thanks for the memories that you shared us during statistic. I feel so glad that I experience all of this. I can say now that statistic is one of my favorite subjects.

At first, I was not so interested in that subject because of all the branches of Math, Statistics is whom, for me, I considered the most boring of all. But when I start studying it, I realized then that I was wrong. As a matter of fact, I like it better than Geometry. I love our every lesson each meeting as well as the flow and the phasing of our discussion inside the class. At the same time, it challenged me especially my knowledge if I really understand each lesson well. I also acquire terms that are new to me, words which I consider not in my vocabulary, something fresh and unusual.

In addition to that, our professor is also the reason why I love this subject. I like the fact that he is so cool. The way he threw his punch lines and his jokes to us was so funny. It eliminates our stress and our fatigue from our morning classes at the same time. I really do appreciate those professors who have a sense of humor and a nice personality as well because they make the students comfortable in their seats and you can feel that there’s no pressure, only pure enjoyment. But on the serious note, I also admire him because the way he taught us every lesson was so simple yet very effective. Each and every time, he made things look so light and easy. He always makes sure that we will absorb everything that he discussed to us for every topic. It just to show how he really mastered his subject and how intelligent he is as a professor because he does not need any teaching methods and equipment in order for his students to understand each lesson, only marker and blackboard is enough. I also appreciate his passion and dedication to his job and how hardworking he is because we never saw tired as what we have normally seen from others. He always have the energy and brings it insides the class. I also admire his considerations toward us. He sometimes uses vernacular whenever he explains some stuff in front of us to understand our lessons better. During our class, he also gave us a short break after every topic. I think it’s his way to relax us so that we will not get confused once he discussed another topic. He always wants to have class participation and quizzes for every meeting because he is so transparent when it comes to our grade to make sure that everything is fair.

As a whole, my experience in this subject was filled with laughter and excitement. Because we are not just acquiring information and learning from it, we are also having fun. I consider this experience as one of the most enjoyable and unforgettable one because I never really had a dull and awkward moment inside the class during our discussion. Lastly, I just want to commend Mr. Orata for a job well done.

    Dr. Edmar L. Orata

Statistics is a process of collection, presentation, tabulation, analysis, and interpretation. Statistics as a discipline is considered indispensable in almost all spheres of knowledge. Statistics present facts in simple form, reduces the complexity of data, facilities comparison, helps in forecasting and drawal of inference.

Attending this class will give me more knowledge about math which I find. Statistic for me is easy and enjoyable because the lessons are well explained. It helps us to know what is h appening around us both in the social life and the business world. I understand statistics very well. It is a bit difficult in matter but it can be understood easily. Sometimes, my head is not ok, because of the numbers that we are solving but I need to understand it because I want to learn a lot of things about this subject. I’m answering my home works and seat works, I’m already reciting sometimes and I can even answers questions by myself, things that I can’t do in this kind of subject and for me it’s very unusual. In this point of view, I realized it is not about the subject, it is about the professor who teaches you and I who attentively listen to him. My experiences every meeting would always be a memorable part of college days. Statistics experience is generally pleasurable and challenging. It made me discover new things and helped me develop my skills more. Exposing us in a lot of different questions, equations and problem solving.

I was amazed that Sir Orata is not just an ordinary professor but also a Principal of a school. He is also giving us assignments and projects to check if we absorbed anything from the subject he taught. Dr. Orata also teaches through his heart. He gave us another points because of a good attitude. He don’t like a student that is no calculator, noisy and always late, Listening and participating to this subject is the best key for you to enjoy. He gives chances on each and everyone in the class to participate for extra grade. This is by participating on solving on the board and etc. One thing I love the most about Sir Orata is he is generous in giving us extra grades.

Being under Sir Orata not only gives us information about Statistics but also he is training us to be more responsible. I will not forget about statistics because for now on I will be one of my favourite subjects. Somebody said that mathematics is difficult but for me not at all.

Love this subject. And for that we thank him for the patience he has given has. And that’s all.

Statistics is basically an easy subject to a simple accounting student.
Just because the professor is teaching skills are exellent, Everyone expects an higher grades in this subject. Statistics is just an ordinary subject to anyone. Statistics and accounting are very similar to each other regarding their uses because both are tools of decision making becouse I think in this subject you need to analyze everything.

For my first day of class in statistics, when our professor entered the room, I started to feel nervous because he is new in our school so we don’t have any idea about him. My statistics experience was cool. Not because I loved the Math subject but because of our intelligent professor who made our subject cool. I enjoyed this subject, because my Professor discuss the lesson clearly and understandable. Statistic is one of the hardiest subject that you will get when you were in college days. During statistic time, I always focus on the lesson I put down some notes. During our class, he also gave us a short break after every topic. "My Statistics Experience"

When I heard that Statistics is one of our subject for the first semester, the first thing that comes in my mind is that I wouldn't be exerting more effort on Math 3. It is because I know that Statistics is just a piece of cake. And even though I love Math, I thought that it will be a boring one. Until I met our professor that made me realize that Statistics is not just a simple subject that you can take for granted.

Our professor in Statistics, Dr. Edmar Orata, is one of the professor who has the dedication to make each student learn. He can make our class an interesting and a challenging one. How will I prove it? First is he always gives us problems to solve that is being used as our practice. After letting us to practice, he will give us seatworks that will make us realize that we have learned something from him. He also gives us homeworks that will makes us more familiar with the formula and with the steps on how to solve it. One of the things that I will surely remember in this class is that our dear Dr. Orata can actually teach us three or more topics within three hours. As well as he can also gives us three or more seatworks within the same time. Imagine that? I didn't really expect that we can learn several topics within three hours because before, I thought that we should put more time in solving Mathematics problems.

If there i something that I have learned being one of the student of Dr. Orata is that we can make simple things in a bigger one if we are really willing and dedicated. I am getting to love Mathematics more than before.
